An artist friend and I traveled to Belmont University in Nashville Saturday for a 6 hour Silverpoint Botanical workshop. My goal was to learn more about silverpoint and the grounds used to prepare the surface to which to draw. The day was spent drawing in silverpoint. The first photo below was done with the stylus and the sunflower was done with silver spoons, forks, knives and silver coins. The stylus is like a pen and nib but the silverware was so much like drawing with a pencil. And they look very different! I had not used the silverware before Saturday. Now I have to start shopping for old silver dinnerware. Mary Lee Gwyn lead the workshop that was offered through the Walkins College of Art / community education. The facility was roomy, great lighting and wonderful parking for a Saturday.
This is an adventure for me, something I've always wanted to do: to be a real Artist! So I rented a studio, lets see how it goes.
