This is a self portrait I did in 1984 of myself with my family and all that was important to me at that time in my life. It is entitled "Obviously Me". Thirty years later, the image is the same in my heart. I love those boys and their Daddy, my faith and my church, trees, nature and my drawing skills. I am so thankful to have all the elements of this charcoal drawing still in my life today, it could have turned out differently. I'm so blessed.
I remember someone asked me if it was to commemorate work of the Battle of Shiloh, also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, (civil war battle in Tennessee). There was a church involved in the battle, and my husband's hat could have been taken as a civil war era hat (I guess I didn't render the hat well enough, huh). As a teenager and young adult, I was a bit of a Civil War buff and mishaps that person knew that at that time. Since then, I learned far more than what they taught in the classroom and it wan't so glorious. It was a terrible time in the history of the U.S.
This is an adventure for me, something I've always wanted to do: to be a real Artist! So I rented a studio, lets see how it goes.
