I've been painting Ornaments for the Holidays. These tiny canvases are just over an inch square. They may be small but they still take time to paint. Two more days and I hope to be done with this batch. I think this will be it for this year. I'll have them for sale at the Erin Craft Show on Dec. 1st and at the Chamber with the guild on Dec. 2.
My Erin Christmas Card is done and at the printers. I should have them back next week. I do an Erin card every year and I try to shard our Irish heritage. (Erin, a wee bit of Ireland is Tennessee). I'll have them at the Craft Show at Erin's City Hall on Friday, Dec. 1. This year the Arts and Crafts Guild is having a Crafts Show at the Chamber Office on Sat., Dec.2. Two days of arts and craft in downtown Erin. I will have hand painted Christmas ornaments, small paintings, wood turned ornaments and the cards for sale.
Hope to see you there. I've decided NOT to crop my still life painting. I shared it with my artist friends at our monthly meeting and my on line friends and everyone agreed the painting should remain just as I created it. Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts with me.
I've been very busy at the studio.and enjoying my time there. I have photos of the pieces I shared with 2Rivers Society of Painters this month. The group is made up of 8 artists in the Clarksville area. I love getting with other artists and just talking about what we are doing. My November display at TENNOVA Hospital in Clarksville on Dunlop Lane, 4th floor. I changed it out late last night and then had dinner with my wonderful sisters. These are small plein air paintings and one larger watercolor still life. All are available for purchase. Last month I had six pen and inks on display. December I will mix them with all new pieces.
You never know when painting Plein Air if you will ever get to finish the painting you started. The weather or lunch can hinder the final results. Most of the time it's lunch for me, I'm a fair weather plein air painter. And as far as Plein Air Painters go, I'm slow. I can get two done in a day, I'm not sayings two good ones , I know artists who do four or five a day.
These two paintings were never finished while outside painting. Today I finished both of them. They are both 9" x 12" and acrylic. Two more paintings that are off the easel and out of the way, Now to get them framed. I love my studio. It has great lighting and it's on the main road through Erin, HWY 49. The most exciting thing to happen at the new studio was when the truck came in the front door. I was working, sitting right at the door. I've never moved so fast. No one was hurt, thank goodness. I've had four studios in the last six years since I made the commitment to creating my art. When I retired, I wanted to do what I always wanted to do, draw and paint full time. I've never been able to work at home, too many distractions.
This one, as is, may take some heat. Composition rules say to never place a element in the center. Well, technically, it's not in the center, it's a little off center. It may be distracting to some.
I took this photo of two "Mother's Day Flowers" I received years ago. The carnation stayed pretty but the rose bud was damaged and never opened up. I liked the dying rose against the shadows of the setting sun on the wall for the background. And, of course, the empty chair just says it all. Life is short and beautiful. I'll take it to my painting group next week and see what they say about it. I can crop it., see below. What do you think crop it and leave it? I hope to have a photo of the finished still life tomorrow. It's almost finished. We shall see if the plan comes together.
I painted all day yesterday on it. I started at the Chamber while painting with friends. After lunch, I again got busy on it. I went in this afternoon and worked. I'm snuggling a little but hopefully I"ll get it worked out. Well, this was a first for me. The church asked me to make a Trophy for the Best Decorated Trunk for Trunk or Treat. I did it! I enjoyed doing it, it took a week to created.
