The Chestnut group out of Nashville is a fantastic organization. They are a nonprofit organization of plein air painters (landscape artists & friends) who are dedicated to the conservation and preservation of vanishing landscapes in Middle Tennessee. I have been a member for about 6 years but not very active. One of the benefits of being a member is their workshops lead by their members. On Thursday, I'll be participating in a "zoom" workshop. Marjorie Hicks, click here for her website , will be teaching "Human Gesture Drawing and Painting. So today I prepared my boards for the all day workshop. I'm very excited about the workshop. Marjorie is an excellent artist and I love her work. The workshop series are called Paint Your Heart Out - PYHO!

Another really good day!
I'm getting my art and my grand daughter's art ready for a show at the DAC in September, DAC & Friends. This morning I went though her sketchbook and removed a few drawings to share. She is eleven and she loves to draw and of course, I think that is just wonderful. She is much more passionate about drawing than I ever was. Her parents have continued to encourage her but not pressure her. She is very creative and imaginative. I managed to narrow her work down to nine pieces. I had to cut mats for seven that needed them. The sad news is, I can only use 6 or 7 of her pieces. I also managed to work for a little while on the small acrylic I started yesterday. It's not finished but I'm getting there! I got so much done today!!! Tomorrow, I buy glass and I'll finish framing Kayla's work. Yes, another great day! It was just a wonderful day today. A friend painted with me at the studio. We just painted anything we wanted to. I did have a few barn photos out for us to look at. She hasn't painted in a while and it's just time for her to jump back in. I put some oils out for her and I had my acrylics. We only took one break and talked a little but then right back to work. I met my son and picked up some of my grand daughter's art work for an up coming show at the DAC. DAC and Friends, she is going to be my guest artist this year. Tomorrow, I plan on finishing the little painting I started today. And that big brown circle is going to be a hay round bale tomorrow! If all goes well!
I went back to the studio around 10 and the landlord had already fixed the leak, that was pretty quick! So I put a fan on the wet area of the carpet so hopefully it will be dry tomorrow. Happy Happy Happy!
I started on the painting and I took a toothbrush to the sky. I just MIGHT be able to fix it but it will be tricky. Thanks to Terry, Karen and Ken for the kind words of encouragement! I have a painting I'm doing of a field of flowers, it's for a friend. The painting is not being nice, not at all. I've got two paintings going of the same so I can experiment a little as I go. Today I was painting and doing well and the better one of the two had a big ugly dark blue brush stroke right in the middle of the sky and across the cloud. (not pictured) Of course, I'm working in watercolor and there is NO WAY to get it out. Believe me, I tried everything this afternoon. On top of this mishap I have a slightly flooded backroom in the studio. The landlord should be there by tomorrow. I had to get everything up off the floor. Everything is piled on top of everything ! I came home early, I had had enough. I'm a little down tonight.
My lovely model visited her painting at the DAC Regional Juried Art Exposition Saturday! She hadn't seen the painting, just a photo of it. She says she loves it, I sincerely hope so. She is a terrific model, I tell her what I want her to express and she does! Here are two digital drawings of Jackie, my sweet and very obliging sister-in-law!
I'm feeling very honored that my painting "Oh, Yes I Can" placed 3rd at the 2020 DAC Regional Exhibition. Due to the Covid 19 guidelines where was not a reception as usual but the paintings are on display at the gallery AND there is an ON _ LINE Show. See all the winners and all the entries!
Here the Link: https://www.downtownartistsco-op.com/artexpositiongallery The NAG (Nashville Art Guild) is exhibiting artworks at the Art Center Of Cannon County. I was very impressed with the Art Center. In the same hall our art is exhibited in is an exhibit of White Oak Baskets which Cannon County is known for. I didn't know that during the depression the basket makers in this area traded the baskets for lamp oil, sugar, coffee, cloth, thread etc. The baskets and chairs were taken to major cities like Detroit, Miami and New York, and were peddled on the streets. These baskets are beautiful and The Center has a very large display. The Art Center is following the Covid 19 guidelines and is a very large facility that I felt very safe in.
I have started a new painting, still in the planning stage. I've made a few color sketches that I'll be sharing soon. |
