drawing from the model
I'm feeling so pulled in so many directions. The flower bed is taking up my mind and my time. I want it finished but it's a waiting game too. I need the border materials but when can I go get them. The flower bed isn't really just a flower bed it's landscaping the front of the house and it has to be done right. The bathroom needs grouting but there's a problem there too! When can I get back to normal around here? Tomorrow I want to go to the 5th Ave. for the Arts celebration in Nashville, Sunday I have to go pick up paintings from the Nashville Open Air Show and Monday I'm in Clarksville most of the day. I guess it's good my life is so full of things to do.
Background for small paintings
today I got to the studio later than planned. I'm still digging holes in the flower bed. I have a group coming to my studio on Wednesday and I have a few holes on the walls where I've sold works or they are in shows. I then realized I'm getting real short of the small paintings that are great for gifts. So I got busy paintings some backgrounds on small canvases. I'll be painting small Erin landscapes soon, it better be soon the group will be in the studio in 5 days. I'm feeling a little rushed right now. I have a half finished flower bed, a half finished bathroom and half finished paintings. .

I drove to Nashville today to help with the 'Nashville Open Air' show. They finished up around 2 o'clock and it looks great and the talent level is very impressive. It's only up for two days (Fri. & Sat.) and the show benefits the Frist Center for the Visual Arts.

again today, I got a load of mulch down and 5 shrubs (big holes) planted. It took me all morning and most of the afternoon with help from my husbanc. I wasn't going to the studio but lucky for me a patron called and wanted a gift for someone. I ran down to the studio in dirty clothes and straw head. It's only 2 miles down a hill (big hill). Thanks to Elizabeth for thinking of my artwork as a gift for her friend. Tomorrow I will be helping out with the Chestnuts in Nashville getting ready for the show on Friday and Saturday on 5th Ave. at the Tennessee Art League.
I just started painting with the Chestnut Group in Nashville. This Friday and Saturday will be the first show I've participated in. It is to benefit the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. It's going to be a big show with lots of beautiful artwork of Nashville. All the painting were done 'Plein Air" on location in Nashville.
I delivered the two painting below today for the show. You have seen them before on my blogs. Be sure to tell your family and friends who live in or around Nashville about the show. Thanks
5" x 7" card , color pencil
Summer flowers are beautiful but they are not my favorite subject to paint, photograph yes. I'm working on my flower bed today (and yesterday). I love this time of year and all the flowers everywhere.
This a card size color pencil I did about a year or so ago. Happy Memorial Day everyone and enjoy the beautiful outdoors if you can.
I finally got back to the studio. We had company yesterday and I had a headache all day. Every time I go to bed with a headache, I wake up with a headache. So last night I was sure to take something for it and I woke up with the headache anyway. I've had it all day. But, I went to the studio anyway. I painted the whole time except for a bike ride on the greenway. I didn't get finished today but I'm closer than I was. I should have cleaned the studio today but I just wanted to paint. I'll try to get back tomorrow to clean. I do like starting the week off with a clean studio. Here are the three steps 3 so far of the painting I'm doing.
11" x 14" acrylic
and I'm wanting to get some flower beds going. We moved a year ago this month. The house still isn't finished and the yard is looking better but I'm wanting to get out in the yard, get dirty and plant some flowers. All the plants I brought from Atlanta are still in pots.
The painting left was a commission piece.
I didn't get to the studio today because I'm grouting the new tile floor.
10" x 10" color pencil
not at the studio, I painted the bathroom. I have a color pencil (on the left) I did years ago at a workshop for high school teachers and it's going in this bathroom. It's small but the technique taught took forever to do. You put the color in drawing tiny circles, the next layers of colors are overlapping each other so the colors are absolutely incredible. I'm just a little impatient for this technique most of the time.
I just couldn't stay focused today when I got to the studio. I couldn't get started on the new painting. So I thought I would get the paint out and make myself get busy. You can see what happened to the left. I went for a bike ride and when I got back, I started the new painting. The photos below are step 1 and 2, I hope to finish Wed. or Thurs. of course it will be more like next week.
This is an adventure for me, something I've always wanted to do: to be a real Artist! So I rented a studio, lets see how it goes.
