I like to draw at night while I watch TV. I got a new IPad and I've started drawing on it instead of drawing in a sketchbook. I have really enjoyed it. In Art school, you are always told to draw what you see, to draw what you know. So far, I've drawn a lot of cats, that's what I see that's interesting and I do know cats.
Two days off over the week end and that means fresh paint. So first thing this morning I cleaned my palette and put out fresh paint to start the week. After lunch I got some painting done but I wasn't happy with it. I had to stop and rethink the process. I have a new plan for tomorrow but the obstacle is, I have a doctor's appointment in the morning bright and early. Oh FUN! I'm hoping to get in and out quickly.
Since I first saw a silver point or metal point drawing, I've been fascinated with the medium. It's a drawing medium from ancient times. I've been too busy lately to be in the studio to work so I have been working on this little 6" x 6" Silver point when I find time. It's not finished yet but getting there. The silver will patina into a sepia color with time and it will sprinkle a little too. I think it's beautiful. This is my third one I've done and I love my new silver stylus. It's so smooth.
I went to a workshop a few months back and learned a lot about Silver Point but not enough. To draw with silver or metal, your substrate or paper has to have the correct ground on it. I know nothing about that. We are trying to get a workshop together in May that will teach the different grounds. The workshop will be in Clarksville. If you are interested, use the contact form and I'll send you some information,
I really have been working on the commission this last week but appointments got in the way. I had the image drawn onto the board but I felt it wasn't right. I asked the client in and I shared my thoughts and he agreed. So I sanded off that image, if was just a lot of prep work. I've now drawn on the new composition! It is a lot better.
This week I got the under-painting in and started on the sky. This commission is really just copying what I see, not much creativity involved but a lot of skill. Unfortunately I'll be volunteering at the DAC & Chamber this week so those two days I won't be painting. I need to get the sky finished Monday and background in Friday.
This is an adventure for me, something I've always wanted to do: to be a real Artist! So I rented a studio, lets see how it goes.
