Yesterday I packed up my show at the DAC and next week, I will unpack most of them in Kentucky. I will have a solo show "The Many Facets of J Felts Art" the month of February at the Hopkinsville Community College. The exhibit will take place in the Auditorium Building on the HCC campus at 720 North Drive, Hopkinsville, KY 42241-2100. The artworks are mostly the same as the show in Clarksville, but a few have been added and a few needed to stay at home with me. Hopefully those pieces can make their way into different exhibits around the southeast. If you are in the area, please stop in to view my work.
This is the commissioned piece I worked on and delivered last week. Thanks Mary Ann for the opportunity to paint this special home place, I enjoyed doing it for you. I appreciate your reaction when I handed it to you, Priceless!!! Below are photos of the piece as I was working on it. Thanks again Mary Ann.
When Montgomery Schools are closed the DAC is closed, so there will be no class at the DAC tomorrow night. The temperatures are not suppose to get above freezing therefore the roads and sidewalks might still be dangerous.
I'll see everyone at the DAC next Thursday, Jan. 25th at 5:30pm.
Im home today because we got MORE snow last night. I spent the day updating my web site, updating the pages. Then I worked on my artist statement for my up coming show at the Hopkinsville Community College in Hopkinsville, Ky.
The photo is of "artist's Collection" of my site on the phone.. It's the painting that I can't part with. I decided to play around with the effects on the screen shot. FUN!
Stay warm, I'm not getting out anytime soon.
I've been able to get to my studio everyday since the BIG snow fall. So today I finished the commissioned piece I've been working on and got it matted. I'll be delivering it Wednesday. I liked the way it turned out and I hope my client will too. I'll be posting photos of the finished piece on Wednesday. The photo above is from day 1 of my second attempt. The first one just didn't cut it.
All went well at last night's drawing class at the DAC. I was very pleased with everyone's progress. If the weather will cooperate we can all be there next Thursday night for lesson 2, values, highlights, and shadows. Last night, there was NO shading , contour line ONLY! Next week they will be much happier little artists. I really enjoyed teaching the class last night, I don't teach classes very often. .
Thanks to Hope Brill for the photo!
Friday, after the opening of my show at the DAC, I spent the day cleaning up the mess I had created getting ready for the show. The walls were empty but I had enough artwork still in the studio to fill them. I was proud of myself Friday when I left a clean, neat studio that night.
Monday, I hit the studio running, ready to get back to a commission I've been working on and eager to get it finished. I didn't like what I had, so I started over. In the process, while masking out the whites, I spilled the masking fluid. What a mess. Masking fluid is like rubber clement. I let it dry overnight and the next morning picked it up and proceeded to remover everything it had captured, two erasers, a pencil, a pen and a note pad. They all cleaned up nicely except the note pad and it's in the trash. Thank goodness, it didn't get on the carpet, you can't get that stuff out of clothing or carpet.
Tuesday, I got a lot done on the commission piece and I'm liking it so far..
Today, I while be in the studio most of the morning!
I had a great turn out last night for my show at the DAC. It was bitter cold and I was afraid no one would get out into the cold for the reception/ artwalk. They did, My FRIENDS and FAMILY were there for me. Church friends, Art Council friends, Art Guild friends, Artist friends, High School friends and New and Old Friends were their. I love and appreciate everyone of them and all their support. Then their is my wonderful FAMILY who are always there for me. I am a very lucky, blessed, fortunate person to have these special wonderful people in my life. I had a wonderful night, Thank you friends, family, the DAC members, Beverly for the food and Stuart for the music. Fun Night but cold!
I'm ready for the Opening Reception tomorrow at 5:00 and hope to see some friendy faces there. I have 38 pieces in the show, all created in the last two years. David made 19 frames and I painted them. I matted 23 works, 16 pen and inks. Did the Title Blocks for 48. DAC is doing the food, drink and Stuart Bonnington is doing the music. I'm excited. It's going to be cold so dress warn and comfortable! I'm wearing jeans!!! Thanks Downtown Artists Co-op!
My show opens on Thursday the 4th and I'd love to see you there. I would greatly appreciate it. I finished putting it up yesterday, Sunday. I still have a few title blocks to correct and get back up before Thursday at 5:00. I have 38 pieces that I have completed in the last two years. I also have some other works just out side the gallery area in the entrance area. I have small pen and inks, plein air pieces of Clarksvlle, Knoxville and a few other Tennessee areas. Some Watercolor and Acrylic along with two commissioned pieces I borrowed back from family members done in charcoal.
We will have some good food and wonderful music by Stuart Bonnington and Friends. It's from 5 til 8. Hope to see you there.
This is an adventure for me, something I've always wanted to do: to be a real Artist! So I rented a studio, lets see how it goes.
