It started out nice enough with just the threat of rain! I had worked for an hour or so when a car came up to me and the people in it complemented my work. They informed me that the owner of the collage would be sure to buy my painting. I was trilled to think of the possibilities of selling a work on the spot. Then, it started to rain hard, the bottom had fallen out. I had already taken the precaution of putting up my very large plein air umbrella. But the winds had come with the rain and the umbrella went with the wind. The watercolor painting I was so proud of was now a piece of wet, stained paper. There were green stains and brown stains and right in the middle was a big yellow stain where my beautiful collage had been.
I am now a fair weather plein air painter. I did repaint the yellow cottage on the same stained paper, This summer I got it out and worked a little on it, just getting mad all over again. In the fall, I finished it, not feeling near the bitterness towards the stained paper. Life is good, rain is good and painting outdoors has it's ups and downs.
